United States Census 2010
|
|
What is the Census?
The census is a count of everyone living in the United States, conducted every 10 years.
The census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution and your participation in the census is
required by law (it takes less than 10 minutes to complete). Federal law protects the
personal information you share during the census.
Why is the Census important?
Census data are used to distribute Congressional seats to states, to make decisions about
what community services to provide, and to distribute $300 billion in federal funds to
local, state and tribal governments each year.
When is Census Day?
April 1, 2010
Are there any Census Jobs available?
Conducting the census is a huge undertaking. Thousands of census takers are needed to update
address lists and conduct interviews with community residents. Click here for a
link to the 2010 Census Jobs page
for additional information on job opportunities.
Census activities currently underway in Macon County...
Address canvasing is currently underway. The Census Bureau needs the address and physical location
of each living quarter in the United States to conduct the census. During the address canvassing
operation, the Census Bureau verifies that its master address list and maps are accurate so we
can mail or hand-deliver questionnaires to housing units and potential group quarters. A
complete and accurate address list is the cornerstone of a successful census (Click here
for more information on address canvasing in
English and Spanish).
How do I identify Census Workers now combing Macon County streets?
The Census makes safety a top priority (Click here for information on
Identifing Census Workers
and an example of
Census Worker IDs).
