Macon County • Gun Permits

Macon County has two types of gun permits for it's citizens:

1. Permit to Purchase a handgun
2. Concealed (handgun) permit

Permit to Purchase a Handgun

• Complete the application for gun purchase permit:
  • Download & Print the Online Application and
    MCSO Affidavit for Gun Purchase Permit or
  • Pick up an application from the Macon County Law Enforcement Center
    at 1820 Lakeside Drive, Franklin, NC 28734
• Return the completed application to the Macon County Law Enforcement Center at 1820 Lakeside Drive.

Concealed Handgun Permit

• Complete a concealed handgun safety course offered by third parties around Macon County.
• Complete the Concealed Handgun Permit form (because the form has to be done in triplicate, it is not presently available online. Form can be obtained in the lobby of the Macon County Law Enforcement Center at 1820 Lakeside Drive) .
• Applicants must be fingerprinted. Fingerprinting is available at the Macon County Law Enforcement Center on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

A Message to the Community from Sheriff Robert Holland

We now have an officer assigned strictly to managing the premises of the Macon County Sheriff's Office. I created this new position because I realize that when you need to speak with an officer one should be readily available to you.

Mr. James Lau will assist you with your needs or point you in the right direction.

This allows my patrol officers to handle their assignments without pulling them from the communities. Mr. James Lau is also responsible for gun permits and various other duties, including making sure I promptly receive messages if I am out of the office.
