Adoption Services
|
Recruit, study, and select adoption homes; perform casework services to prepare the child and prospective parents for placement, support and maintain placement; and facilitate legal consummation of the adoption, including supervision and court reports. |
| Child Day Care Coordination |
The department determines the eligibility of Day Care for the Children. Resource and referral services to day care providers and customers are also offered in order promote the availability and quality of child care resources in the County. Eligibility is also determined for Smart Start Day Care funds. |
| Foster Care Services |
Social casework services through which a plan for substitute care appropriate to a child's needs is evaluated, arranged, maintained, and supervised in a licensed or approved home or facility when the child's own family is unable to provide for the child adequately or to provide a suitable environment. This service includes the licensing and monitoring of these foster homes. |
| In-Home Aide |
Supportive services provided by qualified para-professionals who help to maintain, strengthen, and safeguard the care of children and their families through assistance with transportation. |
| Protective Services |
Investigation of all reports of suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation. A wide range of services are offered to the child and family with the goal of maintaining the family unit while assuring the protection of the child. |
| Permanency Planning |
A time limited, goal directed service to achieve permanency for children as an alternative to prolonged foster care. Emphasis is on working with the biological families of the children in care, to facilitate the child's return home as soon as possible. If return home is impossible, other permanent plans such as placement with relatives, or adoption are explored for the child. |
| Family and Children's Medicaid |
The Family and Children's Medicaid Program pays medical bills for eligible low-income families and children. Each month a Medicaid identification card is received which is presented when services are needed. The selection of a primary care provider is generally required for families and children receiving most categories of Medicaid. Persons that are potentially eligible for Medicaid:
- Families with children through age 20
- Parents of children under 19 if meet eligibility criteria
- Individuals through age 20
- Children under age one who family's income is equal to or less than 185% of the poverty level. There is no resource limit
- Children from age one through age five whose family's income is equal to or less than 133% of poverty level. There is no resource limit.
- Children from age six through age 18 whose family's income is less than 100% of poverty level. There is no resource limit
- Pregnant women, with or without other children. The income limit is 185% of the poverty level. There is no resource limit

| NC Health Choice for Children |
NC Health Choice for Children Program provides health insurance for children through age 18. The program began in North Carolina on October 1, 1998 with the purpose being to provide health insurance to working families who cannot afford employer sponsored insurance for their children.
Your child could get free or low cost health insurance if:
- He is under 19 years old
- He does not have health insurance now
