Macon County Transit is Macon County’s public transportation system. If you need
transportation, try us! We may be able to take you to medical appointments, local
shopping centers, work, Senior Center and other places. Macon County Transit has
established routes throughout the County.
Anyone requiring non-emergency transportation is eligible to ride Macon County Transit.
Macon County Transit does not provide emergency medical transportation.
As a recipient of Federal financial assistance, MCT does not exclude, deny benefits to, or otherwise discriminate against any person on the grounds of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or on the basis of disability or age in admission to, participation in, or receipt of the services and benefits of any of its programs and activities or in employment therein, whether carried out by MCT directly or through a contractor or any other entity with whom MCT arranges to carryout its programs and activities.
Request for Transport
Request for transportation must be received by 2:00 PM the day prior to the date of the trip that is within Macon County. Appointments are taken on a first call first served basis. If calls are received after 2:00 PM transportation will not be provided.
Out-of-county trips must be scheduled at least one (1) week in advance of the trip. If appointments are made less than a week in advance they will be taken on availability only. Appointments must be made between 10:00 am and 2:00 PM.

- Waynesville - $20.00
- Bryson City - $20.00

General Public Transportation is provided on a space availability basis only.
Rules for Passengers while on board Macon County Transit
- Passengers should be ready and waiting upon MACON COUNTY TRANSIT vehicle arrival.
- There is a 15 minute "service window". This means MACON COUNTY TRANSIT can pick you up 15 minutes before or 15 minutes after your scheduled pick-up time.
- NO disruptive or abusive behavior to other passengers or the driver will be tolerated.
- NO profanity or vulgarity is allowed while on board
- Passengers are not permitted to eat, drink, or use tobacco products of any kind on the vehicles
- Passengers must wear seat belts. This is NC State Law.
- NO screaming, loud talking, singing, or playing music on MACON COUNTY TRANSIT vehicles.
- NO inappropriate displays of affection or sexual activity to the driver or other passengers will be tolerated.
- NO weapons are allowed on MACON COUNTY TRANSIT vehicles.
- NO child under 8 years or 80 pounds will be transported unless in an age appropriate car seat that the parent or guardian will provide.
- Take all trash and personal belongings with you when you exit the vehicle
No-Show Policy - A No-Show occurs when the vehicle arrives within the 15 - minute window of service and a
valid cancellation has not been made one (1) hour prior to the scheduled pick up time or the rider has not
boarded the vehicle within the five (5) - minute wait time.
The schedule of fees for No-Shows occurring within a one year period is as follows:
- 1st No-Show = $5.00 fee
- 2nd No-Show = $5.00 fee and written notification to passenger and sponsoring agency that next No-Show will result in suspension of services
- 3rd No-Show = $5.00 fee and 2 weeks suspension from services.
- 4th No-Show = $5.00 fee and suspended permanently *
- Payment of all fees must be made prior to any future boarding on MCT vehicles.
* Services may be reinstated by the Transit Director if a written request is received from the passenger’s sponsoring agency.
